There are varying types of car accidents victims. Some are passengers, drivers or pedestrians. Some victims are seriously hurt, while other accidents only leave bumps and bruises. But no matter what the situation, the legal system is prepared to help. A man was recently seriously injured in a hit and run accident and had to be taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland as a result of his injuries. The accident occurred when a line of traffic was slowing for a lead vehicle to make a left turn; the victim, riding a motorcycle, was in the line of cars and as he slowed, was struck behind by an unidentified vehicle. The motorcycle was pushed forward and into another vehicle. The vehicle that hit the victim fled east and police are still searching for car and its driver. Motorcycles are especially vulnerable on the roadway, however, everyone is are vulnerable to accidents and injuries from hit and run drivers. Those injured in a car accident may find that medical expenses add up. Some people may miss work because of injuries. In these cases, outside compensation may be necessary to reach a full recovery. Damages such as those for medical expenses, future medical expenses, lost wages, lost earning capacity and pain and suffering can all be available to injured victims. This can be a challenge for victims injured by a hit and run driver who cannot be identified or found. But these victims also have options for recovery of damages. Uninsured or underinsured insurance coverage may be able to help those injured by a hit and run driver receive compensation. An attorney can be a good resource to help explain the variety of options available for recovery.
